From Family Roots to Your Favorite taco cabana

Cabana Taco was born in 2009 when founder Maria Reyes brought her grandmother's hand-written recipe book from Oaxaca to Albuquerque, NM — and decided the world needed more honest, soulful taco cabana cooking.

What started as a weekend pop-up at the Montgomery Blvd farmers market quickly outgrew its humble table. Neighbors lined up before sunrise for Maria's slow-braised barbacoa and fire-roasted salsa verde. Word spread, reviews piled up, and within two years the first brick-and-mortar Cabana Taco opened its doors at 8330 Montgomery Blvd NE.

Today, tacocabana fans come from across New Mexico for our hand-pressed tortillas, freshly ground spice blends, and a menu that honors tradition while embracing new flavors. Every dish still follows the same rule Maria set on day one: use real ingredients, cook with care, and never rush a good taco.

2009

The First Table

Maria Reyes sets up a weekend pop-up at the Montgomery Blvd farmers market, selling 40 tacos on opening day from a borrowed folding table and a cooler full of handmade salsa.

2011

Doors Open on Montgomery

After two years of sold-out pop-ups and a growing waitlist, Cabana Taco officially opens its first restaurant at 8330 Montgomery Blvd NE, seating 32 guests.

2014

ABQ's Best Taco Award

The Albuquerque Journal names Cabana Taco "Best Taco Restaurant" — the first of twelve local awards. The team doubles in size to keep up with demand.

2017

Delivery Launches

We launch our own delivery service, bringing fresh taco cabana food to homes and offices across Albuquerque. Over 500 orders in the first week alone.

2020

Community Kitchen Initiative

During a difficult year for the city, Cabana Taco launched a community meal program — providing over 8,000 free meals to essential workers and families in need.

2024

Renovation & New Menu

A full restaurant renovation and a brand-new seasonal menu featuring tacocabana classics alongside innovative new creations. 42,000 guests served and counting.

Born in Oaxaca and raised on her grandmother's recipes, Maria brought authentic taco cabana traditions to Albuquerque. She personally oversees every new menu addition.
